The Renaissance Academy worked since 1993 to create a permanent facility that is centrally located, offers experiential education through the building and site, and is located in a neighborhood that is safe and compatible with our mission. The 22-acre Hole in the Wall property that Renaissance Academy is situated on is an educational dream. After Colorado College did a resource inventory, Dr. Sylvia Kelso, Biology Chair for Colorado College said, “…the textbook examples of biological diversity and landscape patterns seen here have the potential to provide a superb environment for an outdoor classroom and natural laboratory. In any season of the year, ecological dramas will be played out here with a changing cast of species. This site can provide an exceptional opportunity for students of all ages to learn about and interpret the interactions of native species in their environment, to develop a local sense of place about the Pikes Peak region, and to become involved in the stewardship of land for which they have a personal sense of connection and responsibility."
