Spanish - Carmenza Holdefer
Carmenza was born and raised in Colombia, South America. She received a
Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs where she majored
in Spanish. She worked at the Foreign Language Center of Colorado Springs as a
Spanish teacher for three years. She has tutored students in Spanish in the "After
School Program" at both Skyway Elementary and Woodmen Elementary Schools. She enjoys
the challenge of working with the students at Renaissance where she has taught since 1993.
Physical Education - Carmenza Holdefer
Carmenza is a gifted and talented athlete. She represented her native
country of Colombia, South America in national tennis tournaments where she ranked third
in her country. Carmenza received a tennis scholarship to the University of
Colorado-Colorado Springs where she held a 56-4 record winning her the "Athlete of
the Year" award in 1993. Currently, Carmenza is an "open" player in
racquetball, squash and tennis. Some of Carmenza's other honors include:

Technology Education - Doug Larkey
A mid-western transplant to our Colorado Springs community, Doug
hales from Jackson, Michigan. After employment in the auto industry for
several years, Doug returned to school, where he pursued a Bachelors degree
in Science. In December of 2003, after completing a semester of student
teaching, Doug graduated from Eastern Michigan University with an elementary
teaching certificate. Doug was hired in January as the temporary Computer
teacher at Northwest Elementary School, a school with six hundred 4th and
5th graders. Upon completion of this assignment, Doug and his wife Kristin
moved to Colorado Springs to pursue a shared lifelong dream of clean,
mountain living and many opportunities for outdoor activities. Doug spends
much of his free time hiking, mountain biking,
fiddling with
his computer at home, and playing with his two golden
retrievers: Murphy and Riley. Since moving to the Springs,
Doug also received his provisional K-8 teaching certification from the state of
Colorado. Doug has been the Technology teacher at Renaissance since
2004.

Art and Drama - Diana Ruth
Diana Ruth earned her degree in art
education through Florida State University. From 1999 to 2003, Diana
served as a faculty member at the Bemis School of Art at the Fine Arts Center where she taught preschool art education and a program for young gifted and
talented artists. She has been on the Steering Committee for the Imagination Celebration,
and has been involved with other community organizations such as the Children's Advocacy
Center, Assistance League, Red Cross, and Pikes Peak Mental Health Center.
Ms. Ruth has worked in the Youth Repertory Theater on the productions of
"Peter Pan" and "Les Miserables." She has also
continued her education in Drama through summer workshops at Colorado
College. Diana has been an Arts teacher at Renaissance since
2000. |
