African Drumming Club

Bruce Anderson, the drumming club instructor, has a BA in Percussion Performance from Adams State College and directs the Wasson High School and Pine Creek High School marching bands. He affiliates with the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony where he teaches percussion and the Colorado Springs Conservatory where he teaches jazz. Bruce will teach basic African rhythms and hand drumming techniques. Students will learn to solo on hand drums. Djembe drums and various other rhymthic instruments will be provided.

Book Club

Join us as we celebrate children’s literature by reading award-winning children’s books! Laurie Wood, a former preschool instructor and veteran Renaissance teacher will bring books to life by engaging children in art based crafts and interactive projects that will excite and explore the themes within each book!

Join Birgitta DePree for an introduction to famous Greek myths! Watch Greek gods, goddesses and heroes come to life as children learn age-old stories that modern day scholars study to gain a greater understanding of Greek civilization and myth making itself! Birgitta will incorporate mask making, movement, ensemble work and a solo script component into her classes.

Family Yoga Club & Adult Yoga

Join your child in our Thursday yoga class open to all Renaissance community members! Yoga Imaging is a fun, creative and comprehensive yoga program for all ages and was developed by award winning author Thia Luby. With 35 years of yoga experience, Thia’s approach increases strength, flexibility, concentration and confidence. Her unique teaching style invites children to use their imagination and creative minds as they visualize animal positions and mimic them through yoga poses! Please bring a mat, water bottle, towel and stretchy clothing.
