Graduation Speeches

The Renaissance Academy provides a formula for self discovery. Our teachers work with our students to earn a better understanding of themselves and what they are looking for in higher education. Through this level of self evaluation, our students are encouraged to analyze which high school environment best capitalizes on their skills, meets their social objectives, and provides the instructional format that ensures that they reach their full potential. Through our focus on the "life skills" that help our scholars prioritize, time manage, and strategize, they are well equipped to face the academically advanced and sophisticated social/emotional expectations of higher learning.

Our students have chosen and successfully transitioned into numerous environments. Although many have chosen Fountain Valley School, a private high school with a small student to teacher ratio and experiential curriculum, Renaissance students have successfully transitioned into the Palmer IB Program, The Colorado Springs School, and our local public high schools.

Alumni Quotes!

I went to Mackintosh for my middle school years, which can be especially difficult for students. I'm thankful that for those years I was in an environment that provided fuel for my imagination, and fostered my own desire to love learning. I believe it more important that I was encouraged to believe in my own abilities, and that I was free to enjoy learning, than that I learned any particular fact. That love of learning will remain with me for the rest of my life.

-Ashleigh

Renaissance Academy has helped tremendously in helping me make the transition from Middle School/grade School to High School. I spent six years there, and learned good study habits right away. When I reached 6th grade, I had Mr. Kershner as my main teacher. Right away, he prepared me for High School. I am still adjusting to the transition, but if it weren’t for Mr. K, I wouldn’t be getting A’s and B’s in my classes. Mr. K taught me not only how to study, but also how to solve problems, and most importantly, how to communicate with teachers and my advisor if I have a problem. Renaissance gave me the push that I needed to understand that I could have whatever life I want. I have dreams like many other freshmen, but mine are now more reachable than ever. Renaissance gave me the boost to reach the ladder that led to my dreams. High School is very hard, and always will be, but Renaissance just made it a little easier.

- Lena

Lena has been in Renaissance Academy since the third grade and has far exceeded any hopes we would have had in a public school environment. Prior to acceptance she tested as gifted, which would have been wasted had she not had this unique school to define and develop such a unique gift. The learning has been tailored to build up her weak points and provide challenges to match her strong ones. The small class sizes were invaluable in fostering group cooperation to solve problems and learn that not everyone has all of the answers or skills. Colorado Springs is very fortunate to have such a unique resource to help children that can have a positive impact on our society for many years to come.

Mike's Quote

One of the most important preparations R.A. gave me was a head start on the High School academic curriculum. I distinctly remember that during my time at R.A., we covered academic subjects, material and overall information in an intense, quick, and thorough manner. My first semester and a half of high school was, for the most part, a review on material which I had already covered while attending R.A. This made the transition from middle to high school very smooth and easy to handle. Another thing I remember from my classes at R.A. was the eclectic nature of what we studied. I was constantly learning about all different kinds and types of subjects, which extremely expanded my overall general knowledge. This has been very important to me throughout my high school and college experiences. It has always been much to my advantage to know a little bit about EVERYTHING.

Quote by Sallyanne

The Renaissance Academy has helped me to be a successful individual, because, for the first time in my life, I was happy with my education. It renewed my interest in school, and helped me learn that later in life there were places where I could go to be challenged academically, and that learning can be fun. It gave me a sense of hope, which is instilled in me to this day. There is an old proverb---if you taste bitter, in the end it will be sweet. Renaissance Academy was one of those sweet spots.
